In Middletown, New Jersey, a Marine Corps veteran has offered a $2,000 reward – no questions asked, for the safe return of puppy Apollo, on Friday. The Belgian Malinois disappeared from Jrluis Ruiz’ truck while he helped his friend pack up his car.

According to the Facebook page FIND Apollo, Ruiz and Apollo had been spending the day at Ideal Beach where the 24-year-old veteran sergeant in the Marine Corps Reserves called it a day.

According to CbsNews, Friday had been the first time Ruiz had taken Apollo to the beach after he received the pup as a gift from a friend in his unit over the Fourth of July holiday. The two bonded immediately, and Apollo has become almost like a son to his owner.

“I know he was taken. He’s not one to run away. He was going into training. I was gonna have him to be a service animal and was trying to get him to be my service animal…I was a happier person with him. Any problems I had just went away when he entered my life,” Ruiz stated.

Police reports have been filed, the Facebook page is very active and volunteers have been checking shelters and local animal rescues. Apollo has a light coat, black tail and black face. He is three-months-old and weighs about 15-pounds with pointy ears with two black dimples.

Check out his photos and keep your eyes open. Help bring Apollo home. Call 973.997.7183 or email [email protected].

  1. To the veteran. He’s a young guy and it sounds like he left the puppy alone. You don’t do that. Hopefully for Apollo, it will be a lesson learned by the owner and he will be found safe and sound.
