A Florida man has received probation only for taping a dog’s snout closed with red tape. As reported by WESH News, 19-year-old Oscar Lee Thompson III received a five year probation sentence in court on Monday.

It was a year ago that the dog, dubbed Chance, was discovered in Lee County. An investigation led law enforcement to Thompson after his prints and DNA were pulled from the tape that was placed around Chance’s snout.

The dog, who was malnourished and dehydrated when he was found, was adopted by Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno; after recuperating, he went on to be the law enforcement agency’s Pets On Patrol Spokes-Dog.
