An Ohio man, accused of shooting his own dog in the face, has been sentenced to jail. As reported by Cleveland 19 News, on Tuesday, 23-year-old Kevin Fishburn was sentenced to a year in jail.
Fishburn was charged after his injured German shepherd, Zeus, was discovered in a rural area close to the Tuscarawas County line in January. Fishburn claims that he shot his dog twice in the face because “he feared for his own safety” after the dog allegedly became aggressive. A jury found Fishburn guilty of cruelty to companion animals earlier this month.
The judge who sentenced Fishburn admonished him in court for the cruel shooting, stating:
This was a cowardly act and inhumane. I mean, you shot this dog and lied to the police. You lied to your friend. I don’t know how you live with yourself.”
Zeus has since recovered from his injuries.
