Man sealed kitten in a jar and watched it gasp for air in Instagram prank

In the town of Sokal, located in the western Ukraine, a 20-year-old man has been arrested after he sealed a kitten in a jar to film a “funny” video on his Instagram account. Yuri Soroka, 20, has been arrested and faces animal cruelty charges.

According to the Mirror, Soroka put the two-month-old kitten named as Shurik and watched the helpless animal gasp for air. He videoed the sick act on his cellphone and then posted it to his Instagram account. The short video showed the black kitten sitting in the glass struggling to breathe.

Soroka later stated it had only been a joke and he freed the kitten in just a few minutes.

The video caused public outrage and within a few hours the police were able to track down Soroka. The information and the video will be used for the criminal case. If found guilty of animal cruelty, Soroka faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

The kitten was unharmed. A rescuer is currently caring for Shurik, who stated it took several days for the terrified kitten to recover. The kitten will be made available for adoption soon.
