The man believed to be responsible for throwing a live duckling from a moving car in Maryland has been identified and charged. As reported by Fox 5 News, police have identified 20-year-old Ethan R. Fowler as the person who threw a live duckling from the window of a moving car that was driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge earlier this month.

Fowler is now facing two counts of cruelty to animals and two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) headed up the cruelty investigation and Fowler was identified thanks to a video recording of the incident.

  1. There’s no way this poor baby survived. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is over 17 miles long and 186 feet high (that’s about 17 stories).
While wood ducks build their nests up to 50 feet high in trees, and the babies jump to soft-leaf-covered ground, the duckling that was thrown (verified by the actual video) was a domestic yellow duckling (probably a Pekin). They do not nest high up and have no wild instincts – they were bred out of them, and they depend completely on their human owner for food and care. Even if this baby were to survive the fall of over THREE TIMES that height, it would have to swim MILES to either side to get to land. Ducklings of any species do not have mature, oiled feathers and need mom to keep them warm. They get hypothermia and drown after more than a half hour in water.
If by some incredible miracle it somehow manged to survive the fall and swim an astronomical distance to shore, it would not know how to find food or evade a predator.
This vile POS who did this unbelievably cruel act should be kidnapped and thrown off the bridge – with the addition of cutting off his legs with a rusty machete first. no prison term or fine would be enough for the despicable thing he did. And I bet you anything it wasn’t the first time he did something rotten to some poor creature either.
