Man charged with cruelty after dead dog, bound with zip tie, found in pond

A man in South Carolina is facing a felony animal cruelty charge after a dead dog, with its muzzle bound by a zip tie, was found in a Berkeley County pond. According to WBTV News, Jeremy Bush was arrested and charged following the discovery of a dead beagle floating in a pond on the 200 block of Treeland Drive.

Bush was identified as the person responsible after the authorities viewed surveillance footage from the incident, which happened on the morning of May 9. Berkeley County Chief Deputy Jeremy Baker stated:

One camera view showed a male subject on a hoverboard, with the dog. Then the same subject return approximately 15 minutes later, carrying what appeared to be an item wrapped in a white sheet, which was the approximate size of the dog.”

Additional video showed Bush “brutally” attacking the dog for approximately 15 minutes. After obtaining a search warrant, officers found zip ties matching the one around the dog’s muzzle at Bush’s home.  Other items tied to the crime were also found, Baker explained:

A white sheet and shirt was located which appeared to contain blood and also fur that was consistent to the dog. The hoverboard was also recovered, along with a small amount of methamphetamine.”

Bush is charged with felony ill-treatment of animals and possession of methamphetamine.
