A man in Whatcom County, Washington, has been charged for abusing his young dog. As reported by the Bellingham Herald, 55-year-old Robert B. Norman is the man who allegedly dragged, kicked and stomped on his one-year-old dog late last month.

The Herald reports that Norman was charged with second-degree animal cruelty after a witness observed him hurting his shepherd mix on April 25. The witness told the police that Norman “dragged, hit and kicked his dog and at one point was seen stomping on the dog’s paw.” The person who observed the alleged cruelty was able to get the dog away from Norman and call 9-1-1.

The dog, named Maverick, was taken to the Whatcom Humane Society for treatment of an injury, and ongoing care as the case is investigated. The dog is said to be doing “fine.”
