An Ohio man has been arrested and charged for setting a plastic crate, with a puppy inside, on fire. As reported by NBC 4 News, authorities in Columbus arrested Ra’shae Syrtaj Jermaine Johnson for the October 11 incident.

Puppy burned after crate set on fire

The Columbus Division of Fire had released information about the cruel situation after finding the injured pup, writing:

On October 11, 2020, between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a small puppy was set on fire while in her plastic cage/crate. The fire occurred in Walnut Hill Park on the East side of Columbus, near Walnut Hill Road and Saranac Drive.

After reaching out to the public for help, multiple tips were received and Johnson was eventually picked up for questioning. He confessed to the crime and is now facing a 5th degree felony for “Provisions Concerning Companion Animals.”

The puppy has been treated for her injuries and is now living with an employee that works at the veterinary hospital that provided her with care.

  1. WHY would someone do this???

I can’t understand why, why, why setting an innocent puppy on fire is an option…… there are other options: rehome to responsible family or friends, surrender to a rescue group or shelter…… NO reason to kill an unwanted companion animal…….
