A man in Kearney, Nebraska, is accused of a vicious knife attack which left his dog with severe wounds to the skull and spine. As reported by the Kearney Hub, 21-year-old Dovison Segla allegedly attacked his dog earlier this week with a kitchen knife.

The police were called to Segla’s apartment on University Drive Circle to perform a welfare check – inside of the apartment, police found blood, presumably from the injured dog, in the bathroom. Segla claimed that the dog had knocked a cake off of the counter and the knife fell and injured him, but the evidence suggested otherwise.

The injured dog underwent surgery for a laceration in the head which was deep enough to hit the skull, and a wound in the “rear” which went into the dog’s spine. Segla was arrested and he is facing multiple felony charges, including:

intentional cruelty to an animal, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and tampering with a witness.

Segla was arrested and released after posting bond; he is due back in court later this month. The dog is recovering from the injuries.
