On Friday, a man in Fort Pierce, Florida, was arrested for fatally neglecting his dog, who lived on a heavy chain. As reported by TC Palm, 61-year-old Jackie Cloe is facing an animal cruelty charge for the death of his dog, whose name was Boo.
It was a neighbor who called for help after seeing Boo suffering from signs of severe neglect. The Fort Pierce Police responded to Cloe’s home on the 1000 block of Sunrise Boulevard. According to the news agency, the officers found Boo “severely emaciated and dehydrated with severe muscle wasting and a heavy industrial-style chain around his neck where his flesh had begun to grow over.”
The dog was removed from Cloe’s home and taken to a veterinarian, who decided that humane euthanasia was the only option.
The badly neglected dog was discovered in December, but an arrest warrant was not issued until January. An assistant state attorney denied the warrant, citing a lack of evidence. After providing body camera footage, and conducting interviews, enough evidence was gathered for Cloe to be arrested and charged.
He was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail, and then released on bail. If Cloe is convicted, he could face fines and up to a year in jail.
