A Long Island man has been charged with leaving his dog outside with no food, water or shelter. Tyrell Kearse, 31, of Mastic faces animal abuse charges for failing to properly care for a six-year-old dog named Tempest. The dog was found to be extremely thin with her ribs and hind bones visible as well as sores on her tail.

According to the Suffolk County SPCA, Kearse had been given a warning and provided ample time to take his emaciated dog to a veterinarian and to provide an outdoor shelter for her.

Tempest has been seized by the SPCA and is now at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter where she is receiving treatment.

Kearse has been charged with animal cruelty and failing to provide proper sustenance. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 10.
