At the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall, England, a very lonely 10-year-old short clawed otter found a new love, thanks to an online dating profile on a fake dating site called “Fishing for Love” with hopes of finding a lady otter in need of love and affection also.

The otter named Harris had been paired up with Apricot for four years, but sadly she passed away at 16-years-old and left Harris with a hole in his heart. At first Harris seemed to be adapting well to his bachelorhood, but as an animal who thrives while living in a relationship, it was time for Harris to find love.

Harris arrived at the sanctuary from the Welsh Mountain Zoo in 2016 after being rejected by his family. There was certainly something special about Harris that the female otter Apricot liked, and after a few days of careful introductions they fell in love. Harris was very devoted to Apricot, and when she died he was absolutely lost.

The team created a dating profile for Harris and sent it out to other sanctuaries, highlighting his best side, hoping to find that perfect someone – otter.  And then it happened; the sanctuary  received some photos from an otter named Pumpkin, also looking for love at SEA LIFE Scarborough.

Pumpkin’s mate Eric, had recently died, and so everyone was optimistic about a match. With otters, the best chance of new pairing working successfully is to introduce the new male into a female’s territory, in order for the male to submit to the female at the first meeting.

For this reason Harris moved up to Pumpkin’s enclosure to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible.

“SEA LIFE Scarborough are real otter experts and the team at the Sanctuary couldn’t be happier that Harris will be cared for by their animal care experts.

We will be very sad to see Harris go as he is such a character but we will be keeping in touch regularly to see how him and Pumpkin get on.”

Live and love Harris and Pumpkin. You two make our hearts smile.
