Animal cruelty hit a new all time low earlier this year when a lion cub’s legs were intentionally broken so it could not escape while being forced to take photos with visitors and tourists at a Russian beach near Dagestan.
The lion cub, named Simba will soon be flown to Africa by his rescuers to start a new life.
According to the Daily Mail, tourists would pay money to pose with the cub. Simba, was only a few weeks of age when he was taken from his mother. As the cub grew up, his torturers had to break his legs to keep him from running away. Slowly, the cub’s health deteriorated as he was “tortured and beaten.” Simba suffered severe spinal injuries leaving him close to death.
Barely able to move and in extreme pain, his owners tied him up in a filthy barn and abandoned him until he was finally rescued.
Veterinarian surgeon, Karen Dallakyan from Chelyabinsk saved the cub’s life. After undergoing life saving surgery, Simba is now able to walk and play, however he will remain handicapped for the rest of his life. His future, however is promising. Simba will be flown 6,500 miles to a big cat’s rehabilitation center in Tanzania – the return to his homeland in Africa.
Fortunately, Simba will now be living in an environment close to what he should have had from the beginning. There will be elephants, zebras and a natural habitat for him to enjoy near Mount Kilimanjaro. Live long and love your life Simba.
