RESCUED!

Jupiter waits and hopes at the New York City Animal Care Center in Manhattan. He’s a spirited senior who has had trouble adjusting to shelter life amidst strange noises and people he has never seen before. He wags his tail when someone approaches, but how does one make this boy understand – no one wants him?

Found wandering the streets of New York City at the age of ten on April 1, 2020, Jupiter didn’t deserve this fate.

While so many other dogs move right into foster homes or are adopted, Jupiter sits in a small dark cage and looks forward to a daily walk or even a small amount of time spent with a member of the shelter staff. He’s a senior and doesn’t belong in a shelter, but instead of having a soft bed, a loving scratch behind the ears and gentle words from someone he can count on for his entire life, his days are numbered.

“…and when they are living their final moments in a cold, dark and windowless kennel, it breaks our hearts,” a shelter volunteer wrote. “It may sound corny, but we think senior boy, Jupiter is ‘out of this world’ wonderful. He has a serious face but his wiggly behind tells us of his sweet can-do spirit.”

Jupiter is only available to an approved New Hope rescue organization. A $500 stipend has been offered to the rescue group who accepts this dog into their program.

Playgroup notes:

PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: 4/2/2020: Due to lack of appropriate helper dogs, a gate greeting is conducted. Jupiter approaches the female dog readily, placing his body sideways against the gate. He toe taps and appears interested.

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: 4/2/20: Jupiter is laying in his kennel upon approach and is easily leashed. When an attempt is made to collar him, Jupiter became tense with a straight tail. After a few minutes of treats, an attempt was made again and he again became very tense. In the play yard, he saw another dog and became tense after which he kept to himself. Jupiter pulled back when returning to kennel but was returned without issue.

MEDICAL EXAM NOTES: Progress Exam. Standing at cage door, wagging tail. Visual exam only. Assessment: Apparently healthy. Plan: Awaiting new home.
