Investigators hope to find person who put dog in gym bag found in a stream

Investigators with the RSPCA are searching for whoever is behind a disturbing case of animal cruelty involving a dog who was found inside of a distinctive gym bag. According to multiple sources, the deceased dog was inside of a blue and white gym bag that was found in a shallow stream in Heslington, North Yorks.

Thanks to a microchip, officials were able to identify the deceased dog as a male Staffordshire named Archie. The dog’s former owner was tracked down and confirmed that the dog had been rehomed – information on the microchip was never changed.

RSPCA inspector Alice Cooper is quoted in The Sun:

“Archie was a black and white male Staffy and was wearing a red collar when he was found. The gym bag he was in is quite distinctive – blue with white writing saying ‘Make your own destiny’ all over it. Whilst we don’t know what the cause of death was at the moment, there was quite a bit of blood present, and it seems like a very strange way to dispose of a loved pet.”

Anyone who recognizes the dog and/or the bag is asked to call the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
