A horse in Collier County, Florida, met with a cruel and untimely demise when someone led it away from a pasture and slaughtered it for the meat. The disturbing situation was recounted in a release from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office last week:

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding the person or persons who slaughtered a horse in Golden Gate Estates, extracted the meat and left the remains behind. Deputies were called at 7:58 a.m. today to a pasture off Immokalee Road after the remains of a horse were found.

Deputies believe that someone entered the pasture at some point between midnight and 5 a.m., and led the horse to a neighboring pasture where it was butchered. The law enforcement agency stated:

Deputies said it appears the suspect or suspects were after the horse’s meat based upon the remains left at the scene.

Investigation and reward for information

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239.252.9300 (non-emergency), or 239-775-8477 (TIPS), or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.780.TIPS (8477).

Safety measures

Sheriff Rambosk has directed extra patrols in the areas where residents have horses and shares safety tips for horse and large animal owners:
*if you have security systems, check to see that they are operational and can record images
*make sure pasture, paddock and barn areas are well fortified to keep animals safely inside and intruders out
*network with your neighbors to watch each others property and know what might be suspicious activity in your area
*make use of your dogs to alert you, especially at night, of any intruders. With our wildlife population in rural and estates areas, dogs are less vulnerable to becoming prey than are fowl or other animals that make a lot of noise when disturbed
*report any suspicious activity immediately to 9-1-1 or 239-252-9300.

  1. That poor horse…… condolences to the family. One of my biggest fears when our horses are loose…..

Precious treasure, I know you are in Heaven. Please look for Sailor (a bay gelding) & he will show you the best grazing areas and most scenic trails……

Whoever did this needs jail time AND to suffer severe pain for the cruelty inflicted on helpless horses…… They will burn in Hell forever for their cruelty……..
