A hero dog named Matilda suffered serious burn wounds after her efforts and bravery saved four patients from a raging fire at a Lenigrad, Russian hospice after running into the building to raise the alarm. And as the pregnant dog warned everyone of the imminent danger, she passed out from carbon monoxide fumes.
“Its (Matilda’s) incessant barking and the smoke that has now invaded the building will prove fundamental to the salvation of three, maybe four guests of the facility that would otherwise end up charred.”
According to El Messaggero, the four residents of the private hospice were saved by firemen who arrived shortly after the alarm was called.
“The pregnant dog cried and trembled in pain, but heroically endured everything,” a report stated after Matilda’s rescue and her subsequent care.
Matilda (aka Motya) was rescued by two volunteers after she passed inside of the burning building and is being treated at the Vasilek shelter located in St. Petersburg. She suffered severe burns to her face, neck and abdomen. Matilda’s owner who was also the owner of the private hospice will not be able to care for her dog any longer.
So far Matilda’s unborn puppies are alive, but she won’t be able to nurse them because her nipples were badly burned.
