Heartbreaking update on one of the kittens left to burn in cardboard box

In Des Moines, Iowa, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa,  rescued a box of nine tiny kittens believed to be from four to six weeks of age were late last week while authorities had been investigating a fire at a homeless camp.

Two of the kittens were severely burned, and have been receiving life saving treatment in an effort to remove the dead tissue from their skin to help the burns heal. Both Greta and Hans suffered burns over much of their bodies including the paws, ears, noses and lips. Greta suffered the most severe and extensive burns.

On Tuesday afternoon, Greta passed away.

“…She had taken a sharp turn over the weekend and sadly her injuries were just too much for her tiny body. Thank you to everyone who donated and was rooting for her. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we are comforted that she was loved and cared for deeply in her final days and while we had taken great care in ensuring her pain was well-managed, now she is truly pain-free.”

Hans, pictured above, is doing very well and has been improving every day.

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this heinous act of animal cruelty.
