In Walland, Tennessee at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, officials have offered a $5,000 reward for information relating to a dead black bear draped over the Foothills Parkway sign. Especially egregious was a handwritten sign next to the dead bear which said “Black lives don’t matter.”
According to CNN News, the bear’s body was discovered on Saturday near the intersection of Highway 321. Park officials have not commented whether they think the handwritten sign was meant to be a racist statement or something about conservation, management or poaching of black bears.
Hunting bears are illegal at the national park, however bear hunting is legal in other parts of Tennessee. Bear hunting season begins on September 26.
