Earlier this week, a Great Dane was discovered abandoned in a storage unit in Battle Creek, Michigan. As reported by the Battle Creek Enquirer, the dog’s distressed barking prompted employees to reach out to the local animal control agency for help.
Animal Control Officer Mike Ehart tells the news agency, “This is the first time I have ever come across a dog in a storage unit. The contract tells them they can’t keep animals in the units.” Officer Ehart left a violation notice on the storage unit and then obtained a search warrant to free the trapped dog.
The Dane was inside of the storage unit with some furniture, but no food or water – he was taken to the Calhoun County Animal Center for care. The owner of the dog could face a misdemeanor abandonment charge – that person has not yet been located.
