This week, a good Samaritan in Riverside County, California, rescued a puppy from the 130-degree interior of a parked car. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office stated:
Yesterday afternoon, a small dog was heard yelping from inside of a vehicle. A passerby immediately became concerned for the dog’s well-being as it was approximately 99 degrees outside at the time.
Adding:
After realizing the dog was not moving and in distress, he rescued the dog from the vehicle and rendered aid.
When the police arrived, the puppy, Boomer, was placed inside of the air-conditioned patrol until to help bring down his body temperature. The authorities described the deadly car interior temperature that the pup had been subjected to, writing:
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived. Deputies noted the internal temperature of the vehicle to be 130 degrees. 🥵
The police were able to locate and arrest the puppy’s owner for animal cruelty. Boomer was taken to the Ramona Humane Society to be cared for.
The sheriff’s department reminded people of the danger warm weather presents to pets and children who are left inside of cars:
As a reminder, NEVER leave children or pets alone in a vehicle for even a moment. Temperatures inside a closed vehicle can reach more than 120°F within minutes, even with the windows partly opened on a cloudy day. Exposure to such high temperatures can quickly kill a person or pet. A body temperature of just 107°F may cause brain damage or death from heatstroke.
