A skeletal dog is on the mend after being discovered by a good Samaritan who picked her up and brought her to a Cocoa, Florida, animal shelter for care. The dog, dubbed Daisy, was so weak when she was found alongside the road at SR520 and Clearlake, that she was unable to walk or stand on her own.

On December 30, the Brevard Humane Society recounted Daisy’s heartbreaking condition:

She had been starved and has severe lacerations on her front legs (one to the bone). She could not stand as she was so weak, it is just heartbreaking and she cannot tell us who did this to her. She is so sweet and now fighting for her life.

WESH News reports that Daisy had resorted to eating a blanket in an effort to survive, and noted that she weighed just 29 pounds when she was first taken in at the animal shelter.

With the help of the community, Daisy continues to work her way back towards good health. Follow Daisy’s journey, and donate if you are so inclined, at the shelter’s Facebook page here.
