Update: Pulled by rescue and then euthanized after veterinarian diagnosed him with advanced cancer. Rest in peace Rex.

Frantic networking efforts are underway for a senior dog who was left at a busy animal control agency when his family moved away. Rex, an eight-year-old German shepherd, has been at the West Valley Animal Care Center in Los Angeles, California, since August and he is among the “forgotten ones.”

Tragically, this forgotten dog is now on “orange alert,” and he has just two days left to live. An advocate provides insight to this senior dog, who is struggling at the shelter facility:

Then there he was, standing before us. He’s skinny, disheveled and he had the saddest look in his eyes.
Rex is the forgotten dog. For months, he was not seen or walked. He was happy to get out of that kennel and bask in the sun. He has difficulty walking but he’s just keeps moving. He’s a sweet boy and very treat motivated. He knows sit and gives paw, owner said Rex was professional the trained.
Rex is Orange Alerted due to irregular heartbeat, weight loss (he lost 20 lbs since impound), and difficulty walking.

Rex is an older boy with age-related issues and stress from losing his home and family. If help doesn’t come soon, he will be lost forever.

You can help Rex beat the odds by sharing his adoption information. Of critical note, Rex must be rescued/adopted by February 13.

  1. URGENT–PLEASE PLEASE–IT WOULD BE A CRIME TO KILL THIS SWEET HANDSOME GENTLEMAN! HE DESPERATELY NEEDS A “SANE” ADOPTER WITH A HEART!

    • I would love to have that Mr.Rex. I’m pretty sure I could give him back most of what he’s lost physically and mentally,AND lots of land to work those weak legs back to good condition. BUT… I live in Maine.Still I would love to have him.
