In Port Washington, New York, a goofy-eared dog with a loving personality has spent 10 of his 11 years in a kennel cage. Sadly, this adorable pooch named Zeus is the longest resident at The Shelter Connection and could use everyone’s help on social media finding a loving home.

According to the shelter, Zeus is a pit bull mix and is actually quite the clown who loves hanging out with the shelter staff volunteers. He knows all of his basic commands, is well-behaved and continues to long for a family of his own.

“Zeus is a loving, beautiful soul…. He would thrive in a home as the only pet, with a savy dog experienced family. We know that needing to be an only pet makes it much more difficult to find a home, but we also have faith that there is a home out there that is just perfect for him…,” the shelter posted on their Facebook page.

Maybe Zeus would fit in with someone who just bought their first house and would like a dog to make the family complete; perhaps a family who just lost the dog they loved so much due to age or illness, or maybe a child who is no longer a child is moving away to college? Zeus is waiting.

Sadly, the shelter environment is stressful towards a dog’s long-term behavior, and Zeus has felt the loneliness. When potential adopters walk by, he leaps and barks and thus presents the wrong first impression. How does one explain that to Zeus? In his defense, he just wants to be noticed and is begging to get out and socialize with people; Zeus just wants to give and receive love.

Zeus is a senior, and his age makes it even more difficult to find a home, but there is wisdom in his eyes, confidence in his glances and this boy just has a way of touching the hearts of everyone he meets; at least those who take the time to get to know him.

Share his plight with families, friends and social media contacts. Sharing is what will help Zeus find a home.
