In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a florist in Sarawak, located in eastern Malaysia, was arrested over the weekend after having been accused of torturing and killing a cat.
According to the Persatuan Haiwan Malaysia – Malaysia Animal Association, the incident had been caught on video and released on social media which showed a cat had been strangled to death and left hanging from the gate of a private home. The incident was traced to a specific neighborhood.
Witnesses had been reluctant to come forward in fear of repercussions to their own families. The Royal Malaysian Police traced the evidence and arrested the person suspected of the heinous cruelty to the defenseless cat. When questioned, the florist told authorities he wanted to teach the cat a lesson for frequently defecating outside of his shop and scratching on his car. He stated he didn’t expect the cat to die after hanging it by a string off the gate.
The State Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office are currently reviewing the case.
