A Florida man is accused of illegally killing a bear cub who was known to area residents as Bailey. The man accused of killing the cub is identified as 28-year-old Kyle Stevens. In a press release, Kate MacFall, Florida senior state director for the Humane Society of the United States, stated:

The cub was not only shot and killed illegally, the shooter failed to notify the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about the incident, which prolonged the suffering of this young animal.

Stevens was arrested on Tuesday on a second-degree misdemeanor of violation of Florida administrative code. MacFall has stated that he must also be charged with aggravated animal cruelty to “make it clear to Floridians that this action will not be tolerated.” Adding that, “No animal should be shot just because they are moving through someone’s yard.”

Stevens may face fines up to $500 and/or 60 days in jail.
