An evil man who burned his cat in the oven and then tried to flush her down the toilet was given a suspended sentence this week. Thomas Wade, 27, who lived in Stockton, County Durham, UK, told the court he attacked the cat because she wouldn’t come out from underneath the bed, and he heard voices from the WWE wrestler Kane.
According to TeessideLiveNews, Wade stated the cat named Sweetie was being disloyal to him. Wade, who suffers from Autism and learning disabilities, had made recordings of himself where he admitted he was evil and wanted to torture Sweetie more because she had been struggling to break free from him.
The cat had been a gift from his sister who thought the pet would help him. After a trial period with Sweetie and everything seemed to have worked out, Wade’s sister visited him weeks later and detected a strong smell of something burning. When Sweetie was found wet and breathing heavily, Wade refused to tell her what had happened. It wasn’t until his sister found fur in the oven, that he admitted to what he had done.
Sweetie was rushed to an emergency veterinarian by the RSPCA – she suffered skin damage and third degree burns, but survived Wade’s cruelty.
District Judge Helen Cousins called Wade dangerous and would have preferred to have sentenced him to prison, however the defendant’s attorney told the judge Wade has a split personality and his learning disabilities were contributing factors.
Wade was sentenced to an 18 week prison sentence suspended for two years, banned from having any pets for ten years and ordered to undertake six months of mental health treatment. In addition he was ordered to carry out 30 rehabilitation activity days, place on an 18-week hospital curfew and ordered to pay fines.
