Emaciated, blind senior abandoned in the rain

An emaciated, blind, senior dog was abandoned in the rain in a church parking lot in Houston, Texas. The eight-year-old dog, dubbed Lucy, is in pitiful condition. Aside from being blind and malnourished, she is heartworm positive and suffering from diabetes.

Her former owner did not get her the care she needed – instead, she was cast aside like unwanted trash. On Wednesday, the ThisIsHouston Facebook page wrote a poignant post on Lucy’s behalf:

We can’t help but wonder if Lucy could walk on her own, if she would have continued to sit in that puddle in the rain waiting for her owner to return. Dogs are too innocent to understand the concept of being abandoned.

Adding:

To her previous owner, wherever you are, we will love your tossed out “trash” like no other. We will love her until the very end, as it should be. With each day that passes, we will love her more to make up for the love you couldn’t provide to her. We will do all that we can to help her forget her previous life and the ones she called “family.” We shall give her all she will need; patience, love and security, so she can forget your selfish deed.

And a plea for Lucy to live in a home of her own for what remains of her life:

Lucy will be a hospice case. But instead of keeping her in a foster house for her time remaining, we’d like to find her a family she can call her very own. Can you help us find Lucy a home?

Her ideal home is someone in Houston, TX who is experienced with diabetic dogs, and has 1-3 other dogs. She needs lots of patience and time. She needs help walking. She will stay with Jamie until she’s more stable and then we can move her into a home ❤️ and we will be taking care of all of her vet bills until Lucy can no longer fight.
