On Friday night, an elderly dog was rescued from a storm drain in Richland County, South Carolina. The dog, reported to be 17 years of age, was saved by two deputies and several good Samaritans, reports WLTX News.

On Saturday morning, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department wrote:

The dog, whose name is Maxine, was brought out and taken to the emergency veterinarian. Because she had a microchip, the clinic was able to contact her owner, who immediately came to the clinic. The vet ran blood tests and x-rays and Maxine was sent home with her family where she’s resting comfortably.

The sheriff’s department has promised to update Facebook followers with the dog’s condition if they learn more. According to the news agency, the authorities covered Maxine’s veterinary bills.
