On Monday evening in West Mesa, New Mexico, officers from Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center came upon a heartbreaking scene. An elderly dog had been left all alone and very near death; he had curled himself up into a broken ball and was unable to walk or stand.

Officers from the cruelty task force rushed the pup to an emergency veterinarian, and at the same time contacted NMDOG, an Albuquerque-based rescue organization for help.

“We received the call for help and did not hesitate. We made the necessary arrangements and this morning, we transferred sweet MR. BUTTERWORTH to our friends at Petroglyph Animal Hospital to begin diagnostics and continued ICU care…”

Sadly, the 13-15-year-old dog is in extremely critical condition, but the overall opinion is to keep him comfortable with supportive care and give him a chance.

“Has already thrown us a few signs that he wants to fight! He is now lifting his head, he looooooves ear scratches, he is super excited about eating and he is able to drink on his own….”

On Tuesday morning,  Mr. Butterworth continues to rest comfortably, but he is still not able to stand or walk. His condition will be reassessed this afternoon with new blood work and x-rays if possible, however it will depend on how he is feeling.

A foster home is ready to care for Mr. Butterworth; everyone wants him to know what it means to be “treasured and adored, for the rest of his days” – however long that might be.

Please consider making a tax deductible donation to help MR BUTTERSWORTH. You can click on the DONATE button on the rescue’s website www.nmdog.org. You can also call in a payment directly on the NMDOG account at the clinic by calling (505)898-8874 or…if a check donation is preferred, please send to:

  1. The Peters Puppy Pack is very sorry for the loss of this precious treasure. We were hoping he would have more time being loved and shown that his life mattered.

Thank you very much to NM Dog for rescuing him and showing him that his life mattered and he was loved…… it’s a huge blessing that he was loved as he passed instead of dying alone, afraid and in pain on the street…..
