An elderly dog is at risk of being put down after her owner surrendered her to a busy animal control agency in San Antonio, Texas. The 14-year-old dog, named Abby, was surrendered to the San Antonio Animal Care Services facility on July 20.
Those familiar with animal control agencies are aware that owner-surrendered dogs are at the greatest risk of being put down because there is no safe “stray holding” period. Instead, surrendered dogs can be selected for euthanasia immediately if space is an issue.
Abby is undoubtedly scared and confused after losing her home and family. Right now, she is sitting in an unfamiliar kennel run, surrounded by people, sights and sounds that she has never been exposed to before.
