A puppy, whose ears were cut off with scissors, was discovered when police conducted a drug investigation at a home in Memphis, Tennessee. As reported by WREG News, the young puppy’s owner, Nakial Betts, admitted to lopping off the pup’s ears with “sterilized” scissors, and though he said that he put peroxide and ointment on them, he did not mention providing anything for pain relief.
The black and white pup was taken to Memphis Animal Services, where staff has fallen in love with his sweet disposition. Officials also found and seized two other dogs from Betts’ residence. The dogs, Mama and Hitman, are available for adoption. The puppy, dubbed Little Bruno, will be available as a medical transfer which requires special pre-approval before adoption.
Betts has been arrested and he is facing a charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
Memphis Animal Services Director Alexis Pugh commented on the “at-home ear removal surgery” to the news agency:
The fact that people are so insistent on having their pets look a certain way that they would ignore the obvious pain that this is going to put their pet through and do that themselves with scissors, it is despicable.”
