Days ago, a dog in Johnson County, Indiana, was abandoned with a note attached to her collar, reading, “Dad lost his job.” As reported by WTHR News, the young shepherd mix, Roadie, was rescued after someone tied her to a tree.
The note detailed Roadie’s training and diet, and explained that her owner lost his job because of “Covid” and said, “please pray for him.” On September 18, the Johnson County Animal Shelter posted a photo of Roadie with a short explanation:
Roadie is a 1 ½ year old, female German Shepherd mix that came to us as a stray. This sweet girl had a note attached to her collar that in short said, Roadie had been sent out in the world to find her new home. Luckily, she made it safely to the shelter unharmed.
But the post has since been updated with a statement reading “NO LONGER AVAILABLE!” Presumably indicating that Roadie has been adopted.
The shelter reminds owners that there are better ways to rehome your pet. Abandoning an animal with a note is obviously not the best method to find a safe and loving new home.
