For two months, a dog waited on the ice by the sea, “at a remote Russian port,” after being left behind by an ocean vessel. As reported by the Mirror U.K., the dog appeared to be waiting for his owner to return.

The dog survived his lonely vigil thanks to anglers who ensured that he had food, but for two months, nobody was able to capture the pooch. Eventually animal rights activists became worried that the dog, dubbed Hachiko, would drown as the ice melted, so the efforts to capture him were ramped up.

With the use of a snowmobile by a local search and rescue team, Hachiko was finally captured and brought to safety. Despite his lengthy time alone, he was found to be in good condition. Hachiko has a new home with one of the people who fed him and his name is now Chernysh – meaning Blackie.

Chernysh is safe, but appears to still long for the person who left him behind. A spokesperson for the search and rescue team stated:

The animal was evidently left behind by a sea vessel which sailed away from Magadan. The dog remained, and every day sat on the edge of the ice looking out to sea in the hope that its home – the ship – would return to the bay.”

  1. SOMETIMES IT TAKES A TEAM OF ANGELS! FORTUNATELY, THEY ARE
EVERYWHERE–EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ICE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!
