A homeless man in Nebraska is facing a felony animal cruelty charge for allegedly stabbing a dog more than 15 times. According to multiple sources, the dog had to undergo a lengthy surgery at the Red Willow Animal Clinic to repair the damage inflicted by a transient identified as 29-year-old James Wagner.
According to a release, Wagner was first discovered “covered in blood,” on Tuesday – he was walking an uninjured brindle colored pit bull, which was seized and taken to the humane society. Wagner was transported to a homeless shelter in North Platte.
The next day, the authorities were alerted to a report of a severely injured dog in the same area where Wagner was previously found with the pit bull. Troopers helped save the injured dog and then tracked Wagner down in jail where he was taken after being accused of shoplifting. The man is facing a felony charge for attacking the mixed breed dog who had to undergo surgery.
On Friday morning, the Nebraska State Patrol reached out to the public via Facebook for help in finding the dog’s true owner, writing:
Hey internet, we need your help today!
These pups were rescued this week near McCook from an animal cruelty situation that did not involve their owners. One was badly injured but is going to be OK thanks to the amazing work of the Red Willow Animal Clinic. They’re cute and sweet, but their owners are unknown.
Can you help us find the owners? If they are unclaimed, they’ll be up for adoption at McCook Humane Society after ten days.
