A large reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever repeatedly shot a dog and abandoned her in a California dunes recreation area. According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, a female dog was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds at the Samoa Dunes Recreation Area on the morning of August 24.

The wounded dog was transported to a veterinarian where it was determined that she was suffering and should be humanely euthanized. According to PETA, which announced a $5,000 reward, the dog is a mastiff mix who weighed approximately 70 pounds. She did not have form of identification.

PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien commented on the cruel situation, stating:

This dog must have been terrified when she was left to suffer in agony from gunshot wounds, abandoned and alone on the dunes. PETA joins the sheriff’s office in urging anyone who recognizes this dog to come forward immediately, before anyone else gets hurt.”
