A dog nearly drowned in a river after someone tied a huge rock, secured in a bag, to her leash. As reported by BBC News, the Belgian shepherd, Bella, was rescued by a woman who found her struggling in the River Tren near Long Lane, Farndon, Nottinghamshire, on Monday morning.
The victimized dog was transported to a veterinarian, where a microchip from 2010 was discovered. The information on the microchip provided Bella’s name and led to the arrest of a 31-year-old woman, who is facing animal cruelty charges. The woman’s name has not been released by the authorities.
Bella is still recuperating from the traumatic ordeal. Officers have stated that she is “still quite poorly” but has been “showing some encouraging signs by eating, so hopefully she will be on the mend,” according to Sky News.
PC Pace, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was an evil and nasty thing to do to this poor dog and we are making every effort to find out who is responsible. We are lucky that the kind member of the public found and rescued her.
The investigation is ongoing.
