In San Antonio, Texas, a Good Samaritan spotted a dog on Friday morning walking along a busy highway with a heavy chain and lock wrapped tightly around her neck. Unsure of what to do, the kindhearted person called the police for help.
Sadly, the dispatcher’s reply only adds to the problem of animal cruelty. According to the rescue group, Hand-Me Down Hounds, the officer told the concerned citizen to release the dog and “it will walk home.”
“This is in and of itself illegal,” the rescue organization posted on their social media page. “If you have a dog contained, looking the other way to dump it again and put not only its life but the life of other driving in danger is NOT OK or legal.”
With no other place to go, the dog’s rescuer reached out to Hand-Me Down Hounds. The sweet pup has been named Lilac, and she will be examined by a veterinarian and be made available for adoption. Lilac will never be chained again.
To donate to Lilac’s rehabilitation as well as helping other dogs find hope and new home, donations can be made:
