Dog died after being abandoned with note outside of shelter

A dog, abandoned in a flimsy crate left outside of a Kentucky animal shelter, died after breaking free from his cage and getting struck by a car. His name was Cane, and his owner left a note with him for shelter workers to find when the facility opened.

On Wednesday, the Henry Trimble Animal Shelter expressed anger to the person who abandoned Cane after hours, writing:

To the person that thought it was a good idea to leave a 100 pound dog in a flimsy crate with dogs barking all around him, it was a bad idea and it cost Cane his life.

Adding:

I have your dog, but if I post the pictures, they will be banned due to their graphic nature. Cane broke out of the crate and ran into the road. My guess is that a truck from the landfill hit him and dragged him several feet. You can see where he bled out in the road before someone dragged him off to the side.

The note left with with the three-year-old dog reads in part:

Please find me a good home. My owners could no longer keep me. I’ve had my shots and I’m neutered. I’m also kennel trained.

Because Cane’s owner decided to leave him alone after hours, his life is over. The shelter has stated that surveillance cameras are on the property, writing:

Animal control will identify you on the video cameras. What happens to you for your carelessness is irrelevant to me. Cane will still be dead.

  1. Pure evil to have done this. That poor furbaby must have been very terrified and in horrible pain (that I can’t even imagine) after being hit and dragged down the road by a garbage truck. His humans totally betrayed a living, loving, trusting, precious treasure…….. There is a special place in the hottest part of Hell reserved for these POSs. They will burn forever for their cruelty.

Precious treasure Cane, so sorry your humans have betrayed and failed you. We absolutely know that you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends.

    • Yes, Poor Cane SUFFERED Horribly! Although I think his owner may have had good intentions for CANE to find a good home, I think perhaps he was not very intelligent or didn’t plan it well leaving CANE where he could hear barking dogs & outside in a flimsy crate on the street, in what sounds like a Terrible area especially for animals There is a lot of poverty in that area and I fear the box he left him in was All he had. I am sure this poor man is devastated over his dogs Heartbreaking death. My heart Breaks for the poor dog who suffered a HORRIBLE, PAINFUL DEATH and for his owner who must be devastated. This is just the WORST story because an animal SUFFERED & DIED and the person at the shelter left what I believe to be an unnecessarily CRUEL letter to a man-who I perceived TRIED to the best of their ability-(which granted, was Lacking) to find a Better life for their dog. And in doing so, inadvertently caused his Death. God, this story breaks my heart into a million pieces…

  2. There are german shepherd rescues that would step up if contacted.

Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles is on in the area. Reach out to them for help before it’s too late!!!!
