Dog covered in cigarette burns left chained to animal shelter gate

A very heartbroken dog was discovered on Saturday morning chained to the gate outside of the RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield and District Branch Animal Center in the West Yorkshire area of the UK. Video surveillance cameras showed a driver get out of a black Mercedes Benz and tie the dog to the gate.

According to the Wakefield Express, the American bulldog, now dubbed Hector, had been muzzled, and the chain used to tie him to the fence was so twisted and short, the dog could barely even sit. Once inside of the rescue organization, an examination of Hector revealed recent cigarette burns on his body.

The dog did not have a microchip. At first Hector was very nervous and did not respond to any commands, After the staff reviewed the videos, they tried German and found out he was “actually very well trained.”

It is believed the dog is about 18-months-old, and he is settling in and feeling more comfortable. Hector has been learning English and loves attention and affection.

Anyone with any information about Hector and his owners should call the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for inspector Emily Stodart, who is investigating what happened.

“Poor Hector was very distressed when he was found. We would like to find out how Hector came to have these injuries and who abandoned him in this way,” stated Ms. Stodart.
