At Brighton Beach a tiny, matted dog was abandoned early Monday morning. Terrified and unable to walk or stand because her legs were stuck in knots and matting painfully pulled on her skin, all she could do was to wait and softly whimper, hoping someone would come along and help her.
Rescue Dogs Rock NYC were called and rushed to the area where she had been left to languish in pain. Dubbed Abby by her rescuers, the pooch was whisked off to the nearest veterinarian emergency clinic.
“Abby is at ER now & vomiting brown liquid, getting front leg shaved so they can sedate and shave and get bloodwork and xrays…,” the rescue organization posted on Facebook, alongside of the heartbreaking photos of the defenseless dog abandoned on a beach.
Abby remains at the veterinarian hospital and is currently on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain medication. Tragically, her legs were literally strangled by the matted fur; her hind legs nearly severed in two. Her doctors expect Abby to lose at least one of her back legs.
If the egregious neglect of her coat wasn’t bad enough, Abby is also diabetic, and that may have caused her vomiting. Can you believe the veterinarians estimate this dog’s age as only FIVE years old?
Anyone who recognizes this dog or the person who abandoned her, please contact Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
One can only imagine how Abby has suffered. Her recovery and rehabilitation is and will continue to be very expensive. To help:
