A devoted dog managed to save the man who adopted him years ago, but he was unable to escape the flames himself and perished in the devastating blaze. As reported by NBC Connecticut, Samuel Shepley is mourning the loss of Bubba, the Brazillian Mastiff who roused him from sleep early Thursday morning, saving his life.
Shepley tells the news agency, “He started barking and if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here right now.” But the heroic dog was unable to escape the horrible blaze that destroyed Shepley’s East Haddam home. Shepley explains, “I tried to bring my dog with me and get out as fast as I could but I couldn’t get the dog out in time and the entire house just went up in flames in like seconds.”
Shepley tried to use a ladder to get upstairs to his five-year-old dog, but it was too late – Bubba died in the fire. Shepley lost everything in the blaze, including his best friend; he said:
It’s the hardest thing for me. I don’t care about the house or anything. I just want my dog back.”
Rest in peace Bubba.
