In a very disturbing act of animal cruelty, authorities in South Bend, Indiana are investigating the death of a dog discovered in a wire cage secured by plastic zip ties as if someone wanted to make sure the dog couldn’t escape.
On Wednesday, the grisly discovery was made at the Miami Hills Apartment Complex and hidden in a small wooded area.
Jenn Gobel, the director of the South Bend Animal Resource Center, stated it is believed the dog had been alive at the time he was placed in the crate. It appeared as if the corner of the crate had been pulled up as if the dog was trying to escape. The blanket inside of the crate had been shredded as if continually scratching. A brightly colored bandana had been draped around the dog’s neck.
According to WnduNews, the crate had a plastic tray that usually slides into place at the bottom. This one had been pulled out and propped up against the side of the crate hiding it from anyone passing by.
“Obviously animals can’t speak. We have to be the ones and speak for them and we need the community to help us, you know, catch this person and get justice for this dog,” stated Gobel.
