The Animal Rescue Corps rushed in on Saturday afternoon to a property in Guys, Tennessee to rescue 20 animals after a gruesome discovery earlier in the week where a dead horse was found and another horse had to be humanely euthanized.

According to the animal welfare organization, the group working with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department, returned to the property with a warrant to seize all of the remaining animals. The owner of the property agreed to surrender the 19 dogs and a cat.

“We believe that treatment for animals on this property has been a problem for some time,” says ARC’s Director of Operations, Amy Haverstick, “We’re grateful to be working with law enforcement today to make sure no more animals suffer here.”
“Our mission is to end suffering through compassionate action and that’s exactly what the Animal Rescue Corps team did today. Now these animals will be safe and warm this winter,” said ARC Executive Director, Tim Woodward.
The animals had been living in feces-filled enclosures, crates, a horse trailer and pens made from wooden pallets and chain link fencing. Many suffered from dehydration, emaciation, dental disease, heartworm disease, internal and external parasites as well as eye and ear infections.
On Monday, when authorities responded to the original complaint, they found two of the five horses down on the ground – one horse was already dead and the other was so weak and sick, a veterinarian humanely euthanized him at the scene.  Three other horses appeared to have been starving and have since been taken to Redemption Road Rescue where they are being cared for and treated.

“All of the animals from today’s rescue, dubbed Operation Frosty Paws, are being transported to ARC’s Rescue Operation Center in Lebanon, TN, about 30 minutes east of Nashville. Each animal will receive a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatment. ARC will provide daily care until they can be transferred to shelter and rescue organizations that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes.

The property owner was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty and since had been released on bond.
