An Egyptian reality television show has been dubbed “cruel” by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) after clips from the program showed ducks thrown through the air at people, a monkey dangled by a chain around his neck, a donkey slapped in the face and dogs terrified by fake explosions.

According to the Daily Mail, the program, a Ramadan special,  violent actions against animals were shown drawing  huge outrage from animal lovers around the world.  PETA and the Society for the Protection of Animal Rights in Egypt (SPARE), sent a letter to the television network urging it to end the use of animals in the prank show called Mahadesh Fahem Haga. “As you can see in the video, the show uses violence against animals: A monkey was held and dangled by a chain around his neck, a donkey was slapped in the face, a dog was deliberately frightened by a fake electrical explosion, and ducks were violently thrown, among other incidents.

Airing this cruel show during Ramadan, a holy time for Muslims, is particularly offensive because cruelty to animals is discouraged in Islam. According to the Prophet Muhammad, those who are kind to every living being will receive an estimable reward,” PETA wrote.

Distressing video – may not be suitable for all viewing audiences. Use discretion.

“Animals are thinking, feeling beings who experience fear and pain, not props to be thrown around for a TV show,” PETA stated.

The star of the show, Egyptian comedian Mohammed Tharwat dresses up as different characters and goes out in public asking strange questions to people in order to provoke responses. After viewing the video, what’s so funny?

  1. I fully understand that this show is not American.

I am absolutely horrified that this show is considered “entertainment”……I fail to understand how or why this show is “humorous”??? If it’s so repugnant to so many people, perhaps it shouldn’t be on the air???
