The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a disturbing complaint after a woman recorded a video and took photos of dogs being hauled on the back of a trailer over the weekend. Janis Mlekoday recorded the dogs being mistreated, tethered and “scared to death.”

According to WinkNews, Mlekoday stated she was heartbroken at what she witnessed.

“As they pulled onto Immokalee Road, he (the dog) was trying to grab his feet, he was trying to catch his feet so that he doesn’t fall down. He’s scared, his ears are back. He was terrified and I was afraid for him,” Janis stated.

Animal Control confirmed the way the dogs were being transported is illegal -“one of the animals was clearly not confined, or in a proper enclosure while on the back of  the flatbed,” Darcy Andrade, Director of Domestic Animal Control Services states after viewing the photos and the brief video.

Mlekoday admitted she had never seen anything like this before. She is a volunteer at a German Shepherd rescue, and wanted to report the cruelty reinforcing the “if you see something say something.”

A complaint has been filed.
