A cold-hearted Grinch abandoned a cat in the snow on Christmas Day. The heartless act was caught on camera outside of the Ten Lives Club animal shelter in Erie County, New York. The animal welfare agency recounted the sad incident:
Christmas should be a magical and happy time for all including pets. Sadly this was not the case this afternoon at our Ten Lives Club cat shelter. The grinch (with his heart three sizes too small) in this snowy weather abandoned a cat in a carrier at our side door. Our cameras note that the cat was left at 1:24 pm.
Fortunately, shelter staff discovered the cat an hour-and-a-half later…if not for that stroke of good fortune, the abandoned feline would have likely perished in the cold. The shelter writes:
There was a small towel left with the cat in the carrier. The two volunteers were still at the shelter as they were busy giving out medication to our infirmary cats. On any holiday we try to get our staff in and out so it was pure luck they were still there at that time of day.
The cat, dubbed Murray, was taken inside and warmed up. The shelter berated the person who abandoned him and has vowed to pursue charges:
Our camera system is very good and we have all on film including the vehicle license plate. We will be pursuing this further as this is not the right way to give up an animal!!! Had the cat not been found the poor cat would of sat there in the freezing weather until around 9 am the next day when staff would of arrived.
The man doing this knew no staff would be at our shelter on Christmas afternoon! Almost every business is completely closed on Christmas Day. He could of made arrangements for the next day when all will be open again. Instead he left this poor cat in a carrier to basically freeze to death. There is no excuse for his actions!
