A brave man in in Nevada County, California, jumped into action when a bear attacked his rescue dog, Buddy. As reported by CBS News, Kaleb Benham didn’t hesitate to take on the bear who had his jaws around his dog’s head.
The terrifying incident happened outside of Benham’s Grass Valley home the day before Thanksgiving. Benham hear something strange outside, and when he looked, he saw a bear dragging his 90-lb dog, Buddy, away by the dog’s head. Benham reacted quickly, charging at the bear and tackling the animal in a desperate attempt to free his dog.
He told the news agency:
“I just ran down there, plowed into the bear, tackled it and grabbed it by the throat and started hitting it in the face and the eye until it let go.”
The bear released its grip and Benham was able to rush his dog to Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital for emergency surgery. After getting staples and having tubes put in, Buddy was allowed to go home to recover.
Benham explains his heroic act, telling the news agency:
“If it was your kid, what would you do. That’s my kid, I would die for my dog.”
