On Thursday, President-elect Joe Biden, 78, explained to CNN’s Jake Tapper how he broke his foot over the holiday weekend. Biden recounted the series of events that led up to the fall which left him with hairline fractures in the lateral and intermediate cuneiform bones of his foot:
“What happened was I got out of the shower. I got a dog and anybody who’s been around my house knows — dropped, little pup dropped a ball in front of me. And for me to grab the ball, and I’m walking through this little alleyway to get to the bedroom.
And I grabbed the ball like this and he ran. And I’m joking, running after him and grab his tail.
And what happened was that he slid on a throw rug. And I tripped on the rug he slid on. That’s what happened. Oh man, not a very exciting story.”
The initial reports after Biden was injured indicated that he had twisted his ankle while playing with his dog. Biden received a CT scan after x-rays failed to reveal any breaks in his ankle or foot. The hairline fractures will likely mean that Biden has to wear a walking boot for the next several weeks.
The Bidens own two German shepherds. Champ, who was purchased from a breeder in 2008, and Major, who was adopted from the Delaware Humane Association.
