A woman from Bellmead was arrested on Monday after authorities state she failed to provide adequate food, water and shelter for a dog that later died.

According to the Waco Tribune-Herald, Audrey Ann King, 35, faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty for neglecting her dog for at least 24 hours in late July. The dog, named Strawberry, had been tethered by a cable around its neck in a fenced-in yard with no access to food, water or shelter. Bowls for food and water were empty, and the shelter – propped up against the exterior of the home, was not accessible to the dog.

When found by police, Strawberry was very lethargic. The dog died while being transported to the Waco Animal Shelter.

“due to the defendant’s actions, the lack of food, water or shelter led to the death of a non-livestock animal,” the official report stated.

King’s bond was $1,000; she has since been released.

Rest in peace Strawberry.
